Flight Over The Fields Of Iidaka

Oil on Board 23 in x 23 in / 58 cm x 58 cm

This painting most reflects my memories of where I lived in Japan - out in the countryside with flat expanses of waterlogged ricefields interspersed with hills of tall cedars. The village of Iidaka lay some 20 miles distant - just a collection of small farm houses. I would often visit it to climb the steps to Iidaka Danrin (Iidaka Monastery), where I would enjoy its forgotten solitude.
