The Avenue Of Cats

I was sitting in a Japanese restaurant and remarked upon the large number of lanterns it had hanging both outside and inside, and upon a shelf of lucky cats. I thought these elements would make for an interesting painting. As I came out of the restaurant the rain was beginning to stop and so rain became another element in my mind. A wall of cats in the rain. I tried using lucky cats within each compartment at first but the picture became too busy - so I settled for simple cats of different colours and merged elements of graphic design with more formal painting.
