Prophecy At The Edge Of The World

Oil on Canvas 30 in x 24 in / 76 cm x 61 cm

In the centre foreground of the piece is a rabbit seer sitting on a pillar box with other rabbits in small boats crowding in to hear his words. The pillar box stems from the gravestone I found at the lonely seminary Iidaka-Danrin (see my description of the painting Seeth Of The Namecards above). The tree structure arching above came to me from wondering at the vaulted arches of Victorian city stations. Here I have made them organic with totem pole like columns. The structures standing in the water are bell towers - which are a theme in many of my works - and they house the black rabbits, who look down upon the proceedings.
